A self-guided workshop to equip children and youth with the tools to explore creativity, express emotions, and build resilience through photography and storytelling, all at their own pace.

Hear directly from a parent:

"It was really, really cool to see the way she's looking at things through her pictures, how she's interpreting those prompts and what they mean to her..."

For the photo prompt, "friend," her daughter observed a woman with her dog and asked to take their picture.

"She really got that friends come in all shapes and sizes."

She said that they have both struggled with anxiety in the past and that she hopes the class will help them get out of their heads a little.

WHY CREATIVITY?

In today’s world, many youth are struggling with stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation, which can deeply affect their emotional well-being, academic performance, and social relationships. Oftentimes, words alone are not enough to fully capture or communicate their experiences.

At 100cameras, we’ve spent over fifteen years helping youth navigate these challenges through creative expression.

By using photography, youth can process their emotions, share their stories, and build resilience – all while developing valuable skills they can use in every part of their lives.

This workshop also supports youth in navigating visual storytelling in a constructive way, encouraging them to pause and reflect on what their imagery is communicating, fostering a sense of agency and responsibility in the digital age.

RESEARCH BACKED

The 100cameras curriculum is not just built on experience - it’s backed by research conducted in partnership with United Nations institutions, UNIDIR and UNICEF, showing the proven effectiveness of our approach.

The research demonstrates that our methodology and curricula significantly and positively impact youth, with 93% of participants reporting increased levels of optimism and 94% reporting stronger belief in their ability to make a difference in their own lives and communities. Additionally, 92% of participants have reported feeling more confident in expressing their feelings through photography.

This research highlights how our curriculum helps youth not only learn photography but also cope with anxiety, manage stress, and develop emotional intelligence. It also encourages self-expression and community-building, providing youth with the skills they need to feel seen, heard, and confident in their abilities.

100cameras is a nonprofit organization trusted across various sectors, having also established meaningful partnerships with notable companies such as Apple, Paramount, Adobe, Toyota, Fujifilm, and key United Nations institutions, among many others. Visit 100cameras.org for more information!

Hear from a student:

"I feel like this experience could be liberating for people...Because a new experience, just to take pictures, not even just pictures but the aspect of the detail it takes in general. It tells you to look deeper into things. And try to understand before you take out a certain thought or make an assumption about a certain group of people or nationality or…anything.

My main takeaway is to look deeper into things before you assume things, because that’s important.

I feel like photography especially helps me express a different type of emotion... And photography shows visually how someone can be feeling, or just the sunset, and how that sunset would make somebody feel. Just taking that picture, capturing that specific moment is what I like about photography.

This experience has been enlightening. Just viewing things from different perspectives has been a great experience, a very profound experience, and I’ve enjoyed it."

THE INSPIRATION

BEHIND THE CURRICULUM

The 100cameras curriculum is supported by extensive research conducted by 100cameras that demonstrates how our approach helps youth build emotional resilience and improve their mental health. Over the years, our work with youth across a wide variety of circumstances has shown that photography can:

Reduce stress and anxiety by giving youth a healthy outlet for self-expression. Boost emotional resilience and promote emotional intelligence by helping youth process and articulate their feelings. Foster social connection and a sense of belonging by providing youth with a platform to share their stories.

Our approach has been proven to make a lasting impact, with our research showing measurable improvements in both mental well-being and academic performance for youth participants. By using creative activities to process emotions and express themselves, youth become more equipped to handle the challenges they face in life.
